This past weekend some of the nations top prep school programs descended on the campus of Tufts University for the 2014 Hoop Dreams Mag Prep Classic.  In only its first ever year of existence, the event saw a huge presence of national media including ESPN, Rivals, Scout, Future 150, and 2eZ Mixtapes.  Adding to the events national notoriety was the presence of college coaches from BC, BU, Dartmouth, Harvard, Holy Cross, UMass Amherst, UMass Lowell, UNH, Northeastern, Providence, Vermont, and Villanova.  Also in attendance were a number of HEA alumni, who each excelled throughout the event.  Lets take a look at how each played.

Day 1

Eric D’Aguanno and Marianapolis Prep fell to Worcester Academy 53-44.  Only a sophomore, D’Aguanno continues to be a valuable contributor on the perimeter for a team that features a tough inside duo of seniors Eric Long and Bobby Ahearn.

Sultan Olusekun and Belmont Hill defeated Bruce Brown, Christian Vital, and Vermont Academy 59-51.  Olusekun was tremendous in the winning effort, finishing with 22 points and 9 assists.  Olusekun is a junior who possesses a great feel for the game, and is a prospect that mid major/high academic colleges need to take notice.  Brown finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds.  Vital was slowed by an ankle injury that occurred early in the contest.

Day 2

Bruce Brown and Vermont Academy defeated Brooks School 48-47.  Brown played a dominant game, displaying all the skills necessary to be considered a top 50 prospect in the national class of 2016.  The 6’4″ combo guard played the role of facilitator and playmaker for a shorthanded Vermont Academy squad, on his way to 25 points and 11 rebounds.  Brown had the play of the game, coming up with a steal and game wining layup to put his team up 1 with 7.7 seconds left in the game.

In the events final game Aaron McLean and St. Mark’s fell to PJ Tucker and Beaver Country Day School 63-61, in an overtime thriller.  McLean proved to be a solid presence in the middle while matched up with Purdue commit Jacquil Taylor, finishing with 13 points.
