This past weekend Elite Week alumni competed in the first rounds of both the 8th grade and 10th grade 2013 Massachusetts AAU State Tournament. Teams were competing for the chance to advance to the Final Four and punch their ticket to AAU Nationals this summer.
Take a look out how each of our alumni and their teams played over the weekend.
Tyree Weston – 6’1″, Guard, Bay State Magic – The versatile guard led his 10th grade Bay State Magic team in scoring over the weekend. After an opening round loss to the Boston Spartans, Weston and company earned hard fought victories over Metro Boston and Middlesex Magic, before eventually falling to BABC in the quarterfinals of the 10th grade championship bracket.
Jarris Ashley – 5’11”, Guard, Bay State Magic – Ashley teamed up with Weston to provide stability in the backcourt all weekend long for his 10th grade Bay State Magic squad. Ashley played his best game in the quarterfinals against BABC, finishing with 10 points and 9 assists.
Bruce Brown – 6’4″, Guard, BABC – Brown and his 10th grade BABC squad cruised to the Final Four with a 68-39 victory over fellow Elite Week alumni Weston and Ashley.
Terance Mann – 6’5″, Guard, BABC – Fresh off 2 new offers from Florida and Iowa State, Mann and company got some valuable work in over the weekend to prepare for this weekends EYBL Session #3 in Dallas.
Jordan Galloway – 5’8″, Guard, BABC – Galloway provided a spark off the bench for the 8th grade BABC squad with his steady handle, ability to knock down shots, and absorb contact to get to the free throw line. BABC earned hard fought victories of Evolution Elite, Basketball Specialist School, and Greater Boston Lions to punch their ticket to the Final Four.
Martin Mann – 6’4″, Guard, BABC – Mann contributed effectively off the bench all weekend for what has proved to be a deep frontline for the 8th grade BABC team. Mann uses his length and high basketball IQ to defend in the post and rebound at a high volume.
Kimani Lawrence – 6’6″, Guard, Expressions Elite – The leader of what is one of the best 8th grade teams in New England, Lawrence and his 8th grade Expressions Elite squad went undefeated on the weekend earning a spot in the 8th grade Final Four in May. Lawrence continues to solidify himself as one of the most intriguing young players in New England.
Charles Mitchell & Charlie Mitchell – 5’7″, Guard, Expressions Elite – The twin duo of Charles and Charlie Mitchell continue to bring energy, toughness, and stable backcourt play off the bench for a supremely talented Expressions Elite team.
Marcus Zegarowski – 5’10”, Guard, Expressions Elite – Zegarowski and his 8th grade Expressions Elite North team had arguably the toughest road to the Final Four, but Marcus proved up to the challenge. Marcus led his team to an undefeated weekend through a gauntlet that included Mass Elite, Boston Warriors, Evolution Elite, and Blue Magic, for a spot in the Final Four.
Max Zegarowski – 5’11”, Guard, Expressions Elite – Max displays the ability to consistently stretch the defense on offense, defend and rebound on defense, and make high basketball IQ plays for his Expressions Elite North squad.
Michael Odiana – 5’10”, Guard, Expressions Elite – Odiana continues to make strides in his overall game, and his strong guard play was an intrigal part of Expressions Elite North teams fun to the Final Four. Odiana has the ability to slash to the hoop, plays outstanding defense, and rebounds the ball well out of the backcourt.
Isaiah Holmes – 5’5″, Guard, Expressions Elite – Holmes provides a steady backcourt presence, and has the ability to knock down shots for his Expressions Elite North squad.
