New England Recruiting Report hosted its annual Super 16 this past weekend at Connecticut College in New London, CT.  In what was a field loaded with high level teams,  Elite Week alumni were present in the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade divisions.

Lets take a look how each of our alumni an their respective teams played throughout the weekend.

11th Grade Division:

In what has become the norm for local tournaments, Mass Rivals 9th grade team played up in the 11th grade division at the Super 16.  Elite Week alumnus Tomas Murphy played outstanding against older competition, displaying just how advanced a skill set he possess as only an 8th grader.  Eric D’Aguanno continued to provide a steady presence and competitive edge as a leader for this young team, while Sherron Harris provided defense and athleticism off the bench.  Mass Rivals competed hard throughout the weekend, falling 44-55 to USAD and 37-49 to Team Jersey Elite, and Middlesex Magic on Sunday.  Look for the experience of playing up against older competition to pay dividends as this Mass Rivals squad closes out the adidas Grassroots Basketball circuit later on in the summer.

10th Grade Division:

The Super 16 marked the first tournament for the New England Playaz after finding out they will be officially reinstated for the July live period, after playing as ECE-Mass last summer.  The Playaz road this momentum, cruising through pool play with a 54-25 win over JC Ballers, followed by a 69-53 win over Expressions Elite 9th grade team.  Elite Week alumnus Tyree Weston played well for the Playaz, displaying his patented speed and strength in the open floor.  Weston and company lost in the semifinals to a highly talented and eventual 10th grade champion Team Scan.

Expressions Elite 9th grade team played up in the 10 grade division.  This squad features former Elite Week MVP Tyonne Malone who set the tone for this young team all weekend.  Malone used his ability to slash to the hoop to either finish at the rim or make plays for his teammates.  Expressions Elite competed all weekend long, including a hard fought game against the New England Playaz.

9th Grade Division:

It was a difficult weekend for Metro Boston 9th grade team and Elite Week alumni Jayden Depina, and new addition Jarris Ashley, as they dropped games against a tough Maine Athletic Club and USAD in pool play.  Only an 8th grader, Depina continues to gain valuable experience playing up against older competition.  Ashley adds a playmaker in the backcourt for Metro Boston heading into the summer, and will play for both the 9th and 10th grade teams.

8th Grade Division:

BABC 8th grade squad looked to regroup after a tough loss in the AAU State title game the previous weekend.  Elite Week alumni Jordan Galloway, Martin Mann, Geo Baker and a talented BABC frontline went 3-0 in pool play, defeating USAD, Team 10, and a highly talented Greater Boston Lions team 43-38 to advance to the semifinals.  BABC was able to defeat ECE in the semifinals and CT Select in the finals to finish 5-0 on the weekend, and capture the 8th grade Super 16 Championship.
