This past weekend some of the top AAU teams in New England converged on Mass Premier Courts (Foxboro, MA) for the 2013 New England AAU Super Regionals. A number of our Elite Week alumni shined throughout the weekend.
Check out how our alumni played well in what was a talent laden group of some of the top 7th and 8th graders in New England.
Kimani Lawrence – 6’6″, Guard, Expressions Elite – Lawrence and the 8th grade Expressions Elite squad was as good as advertised throughout the weekend. Lawrence displayed an improved handle and range on his jump shot, to go along with his patented slashing ability. Lawrence is the unquestioned leader of what is one of the most talented 8th grade team in the region. Lawrence lead his team to an undefeated record and the 8th grade AAU Super Regional championship, with a 76-48 win over a tough Boston Warriors team.
Charles Mitchell – 5’7″, Guard, Expressions Elite – Mitchell came off the bench to provide a defensive spark that often was the finishing blow to the teams Expressions faced throughout the weekend. Mitchell utilized his speed and tight handle to push the pace on offense, and was a menace on defense.
Charlie Mitchell – 5’7″, Guard, Expressions Elite – Making up the rest of the Mitchell twin duo, Charlie was a spark plug off the bench for his supremely talented Expressions Elite squad. Mitchell was tough to stay in front of on offense as a result of his speed and ability to change directions on the drop of a dime. Mitchell was a hound on defense as well.
Marcus Zegarowski – 5’9″, Guard, Expressions Elite – Zegarowski has grown a signigicant amount since last summer, and was the catalyst for the Expressions Elite 8th Grade North squad that made a run to the Super Regional semifinals. Zegarowski has improved the range on his jumper, to go along with his strong floor presence and tight ball handling ability. The North squad fell to the Boston Warriors 57-59.
Max Zegarowski – 5’11”, Guard, Expressions Elite – Zegarowski contributed with a strong floor game, rebounding ability, and shot making skills to help the North squad advance to the semifinals. Zegarowski displayed improved athletic ability as well.
Isaiah Holmes – 5’5″, Guard, Expressions Elite – Holmes was a floor general throughout the tournament. Holmes balanced setting up his teammates with timely scoring opportunities, including deep 3’s, floaters, and timely free throws.
Michael Odiana – 5’10”, Guard, Expressions Elite – Odiana serves as glue guy for the Expressions Elite North squad. Odiana used his length and athleticism to guard larger post players throughout the event, and used his speed to get out on the break for run outs and put back opportunities.
Joran Galloway – 5’9″, Guard, BABC – Fresh off of a BPS middle school championship, Galloway added a steady ball handling presence and scoring threat for a talented BABC 8th grade squad. In Saturday’s action, Galloway scored in bunches using his deep range, floaters, and advanced midrange game. Galloway had to sit out of Sunday’s action because of injury. BABC advanced to the semifinals before falling to eventual champion Expressions Elite 61-73.
Martin Mann – 6’4″, Forward, BABC – Martin has added considerable strength to his long frame since last summer. The added weight definitely helped him compete down low, as he rebounded at a high clip throughout the weekend. Mann displayed the ability to finish in the post off of drive and dishes from the BABC backcourt.
Kani Glover – 5’6″, Guard, Team DEMI – Glover and his DEMI teammates swept through the 7th grade division on its way to a 7th grade AAU Super Regional championship, beating All For One 52-40. Glover played his patented steady floor game, making good decisions with the ball, and knocking down timely jump shots.
