The 2014 National Prep School Invitational took place at Rhode Island College Thursday, January 30 to Sunday, February 2. The 16th annual NPSI hosted some of the nations top prep school programs, as well as some international programs. A number of HEA alumni took part in the event. Lets take a look at how each played over the weekend.
Day 1
Ellis Christmas returned from injury to provide his Suffield Academy squad much needed backcourt help. Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Tigers fell to Class AAA power St. Thomas Moore 88-43.
Kimani Lawrence entered the starting lineup for Cushing Academy, and did not disappoint, helping the Penguins defeated Coastal Academy 90-84.
Bruce Brown, Christian Vital, and their Vermont Academy squad fell to South Kent School in overtime 84-82. Brown finished with 30 points, including a highlight reel dunk over a defender.
Day 3
Kimani Lawrence and Cushing Academy defeated West Oak High School 82-80. Lawrence continued to assert himself in a starting role, including the game winning layup off of a feed from Jalen Adams with 1 second left on the clock.
Day 4
Bruce Brown, Christian Vital, and Vermont Academy were back in action on day 4 to face-off with Class AAA powerhouse Brewster Academy. The young Wildcats were overmatched by a veteran Brewster squad 114-73. Vital finished with 18 points.
Terance Mann willed his team to victory over defending National Prep Champion Northfield Mount Hermon 93-79. Mann finished with an efficient 20 points, paced the tempo of the offense, while controlling the boards on the defensive end.
